If it is necessary to make briquettes from bulky pieces of wood, or ones which are variable (branches, processing waste, pruning waste, etc.) the material should be prepared before being conveyed to the machine and briquetted. The preparatory stage may involve the inclusion in the system of a grinder/chipper, a refining mill or both machines, depending on specific needs.

When the moisture content is high (generally with sawmill waste) the material should be dried and taken to a moisture percentage below 14%.
